For the love of canines, please open more trials to dogs! Nothing is more frustrating that having a voice control trail meet up with a leash only trail and then intersect a no dogs trail -- all within 1 mile. How about some free workshops on voice control and proper trail etiquette? In my experience, Boulder dog owners are great at self-policing...a little trust goes a long way!

    Thanks!

  4. I walk the trails everyday, sometimes more than once a day, and invariably I either experience first hand or witness times when dogs are a problem. Everything happens from dogs chasing animals, to off leash dogs pooping without the guardian either knowing or caring enough to clean up after them. I have personally been jumped on by dogs that easily out weigh me, and the guardians tend to see it as fine. Once when I asked that a man call his dog off of me, he repled, "Oh, get a life!". The trails are littered with bags and poop more and more every day. If there were a leash law on all trails, the guardians would be more directly involved in the dog behavior. This is a very limited report of what I see every day.

I love dogs, but I also love hiking without them. Why, because they disturb and chase wildlife, trample the sides of trails and "investigate" wildlife that would rather be left alone. I do not like the bags of dog poop, and the poop and urine and trampled ground are producing a welcome mat for weeds.

I want there to be exactly as many miles of trails that ban dogs as there are that allow dogs. That equity is not even closely achieved at this point.

I also want strict enforcement of the existing rules, and that is not even close to being achieved at this point.

Dogs have negative impacts on people, wildlife, vegetation, and require costly removal of tons of reeking crap from the trail trash cans. This defies all the definitions of passive recreation.

I believe that dogs should be restricted to trails everywhere they are allowed to go.

The complaint that when you ban dogs you ban dog owners simply isn't true, they can still use the trails without their dogs. That is like saying that because you ban motorcycles, all motorcycle owners are banned - pure silly.

The complaint that "I pay may taxes so I should be allowed to bring a dog" is also silly. All motorcycle owners also pay taxes, but don't get to ride them on open space.

I would like at least 25% of all trails to ban dogs, 25% of trails to allow off leash, and 50% of trails to allow on-leash. Only a selfish dog owner could whine about that balance...and there will be plenty who do.
